May Newsletter

Reading Workshop: This is our last full month of Guided Reading. During this time, we will continue to grow as readers. Our reading will focus on the elements of non-fiction and fiction texts. I will also benchmark each student to establish his or her final 3rd grade reading level. This information will provide a starting point for their fourth grade teacher.

Writing Workshop: Our poetry unit is almost complete. We have explored many different types and also created our own. The poems created by the students are rich with figurative language, one of the areas of focus in Grade 3. They are amazing to read! We will finish up our year by completing some of our stories that we abandoned throughout the year.

Math: Unit 9 and 11 are all we have left J The skills we will look to master this month are still the basic multiplication facts and we will add probability to the mix. These lessons will be a lot of fun with interactive games and a lot of interactive white board activities. Our timed tests will continue through this month. Please keep practicing at home.
